Know If You’re Getting
Married in 2020
That’s the trend we see for 2020 and the years ahead. The modern malay weddings have become less about inviting 1000 – 2000 pax, two receptions for both families & void deck wedding but more about choosing their own personal touch and adventure. The number of invitations have also gone down drastically. Five years ago, the average number of invitees were about 1500 comparing to 500-800 today. An intimate wedding with close friends and families are what matters now. Why should anyone have to follow rules and traditions when it comes to celebrating their personal love story?
The new generation of wedding couples are more mindful of their guests at their wedding and they are willing to splurge a little bit more to have a more memorable and comfortable experience for them. The days of squeezing around tables and chairs to have a decent meal under the heat and humidity here in Singapore is slowly fading away. Couples are also more inclined to choose minimal modern contemporary decoration creating an ambience or mood as compared to something royal or grand.
The wedding industry is also evolving and keeping up with the trend just to stay relevant and cater to the new generation of clienteles. Over the last few years, we have seen a great amount of change in how couples plan their weddings.
Here’s a list of what we think are trending for 2020 in the Malay Wedding market here in Singapore:
1. Wedding Dress
We have moved on from the traditional royal gold songket to a more elegant, poshed and minimal one. SIMPLE is key. By 2020, many Bridal fashion designers will have released fashionable pieces of songkets with simple details and amazing exotic colours. The sanggul lintangs are also simple as Brides do not wish to carry the world on her head (the husband is enough headache =p).
As the trend for popular styles emerges, it gives birth to different kinds of dresses and one can get a little confused as to which style is worth the look. In 2020, the most sought for is wedding lace with bracelets.
However, we also noticed for the past few years, there have been a couple of Brides who opted everything customized and tailor-made. Is this going to be a trend for the years ahead? We highly think so.
2. Wedding Rings
If you’re reading this wearing an engagement ring, then you’re already ahead of the curve! One of the most game-changing 2020 wedding trends is that couples choosing their rings together – both the engagement ring and wedding bands.
Bvlgary, Cartier and Mont Blanc wedding bands are the trend right now. On top of that, they typically have their initials and dates engraved too as well. While they may be a bit more pricey (usually starting from about $5000 onwards) than the traditional jewellers, couples are willing to spend more on something which they’ll hold on to for the rest of their life.
3. Wedding Cakes
We have been witnessing a shift in requests for ‘non-traditional cakes’. Macaroons, cupcakes and even donuts are the in-thing right now! Beautifully handcrafted and decorated by the cake decorator, guests usually are very impressed with these new style of wedding cakes.
They also allow for quick distribution to the guests after the cake cutting ceremony and helps to minimize wastage. Non-traditional brides looking for new ideas for a contemporary and creative wedding will love this trend.
4. Wedding Decor
Scroll through your Instagram feed on any given Saturday or Sunday and expect to be bombarded with aesthetically pleasing dais and tablescapes. You’ll definitely be spoilt for choice and will have a hard time determining what style will suits you. The current trend now are earthly and natural colors to create that warm and relax mood for the guests.
Warm or bright lights are also used to light up the location to create a ‘happier’ ambience. Outdoor wedding is also becoming a trend, usually reserve for solemnization and with a small number of guests. We are seeing less and less decors with colourful setup and lights which is usually a nightmare for photographers.
5. Destination Wedding Photography
